I should really, really be catching up on my reviews. But I’m really, really not in the mood to write a review right now, so here I am with another book tag. I stole this (as I often do) from Thrice Read. If you don’t follow their blog, you really should, because it’s great! Anyway, let’s get to it.
Find a book on your bookshelves with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. I’m not sure why i bought it. I think it had something to do with it being set in a desert setting and being western-y and also very pretty. I did end up really enjoying this book though, so I have no regrets.
Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?
This is the answer I usually give to this question, but Tangled by Emma Chase. I honestly have no idea why I read it at all. Because it’s not a genre that I generally enjoy and it didn’t even have a pretty cover. I remember finding it on Goodreads and I think I read a review that was really positive and I was really bored, so I was like… “Eh, might as well.” And I ended up really enjoying it.
Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick a book at random. How did you discover this book?
This is pretty hard to do, since a) I have 2 bookshelves in 2 different places; b) I have way too many books for just the two bookshelves and therefore, they’re double stacked like nothing else and c) I know where all my books are on the shelves. So instead, to make it more random, I’m gonna go to my Goodreads owned books shelf, set it on random and get the first book on there.
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I won this book in a giveaway and I discovered it when entering that giveaway.
Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?
The Bat by Jo Nesbo. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I bought it, but I haven’t read it yet.
Pick a book up that you discovered through booktube/bookstagram/book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?
Oh man, there are so many for this one! Um… Illuminae by Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff and absolutely fucking YES! You can read my review of it, if you are interested.
Find a book on your shelves with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?
Temeraire by Naomi Novik. This is another one that i heard of through booktube. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s about dragons in Napoleon’s time so… as far as I’m concerned, that’s all you need to know really.
What book did you discover through a film/TV adaptation?
The Hunger Games, believe it or not. I wasn’t much into YA at the time, so I only found out about it when the first film came out. I watched the film and I thought it was meh, but decided to read the books. It’s interesting, because I liked the first film a lot more after reading the books than before, which is unusual.
Think of your all-time favorite book(s). When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?
This one’s hard. There are so many! Well, The Lord of the Rings definitely has to be on this list. I’ve read them 3 times, the first time I was maybe 12? I’m not sure. I picked them up because I loved the films.
The ACTOAR series by Sarah J. Mass should probably also be on here. I picked it up when the first book came out (well, a bit later that year) because I’d read ToG and I loved it and I wanted to see what else Sarah had in store. Also, Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite stories, so when I heard it was a retelling… I just had to.
A Grief Observed by C. S. Lewis. Someone had lent it to my mum a few years back and of course I wanted to read it because it was a book and it was C.S. Lewis. And I read it twice in two days.
