New Year, new books – Book Haul

I didn’t get all of these in the past 4 days, just for the record. These are the books I’ve acquired since my last haul which was in October I believe. Considering Christmas happened, this is a remarkably small haul. Which I’m pleased with.

Physical books I purchased for myself

The Girl In the Tower by Katherine Arden | The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden | The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern | Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Physical books I received as gifts/in subscription boxes

A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy | The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow | The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Electronic books I’ve purchased

Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson | The Return of the King by J. R. R. Tolkien | The Toll by Neal Schusterman | The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang | Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures Vol. 1 by Matt Fitton

Why Does E=mc2 and Why Should We Care? by Brian Cox & Jeff Forshaw| Rome: A History in Seven Sackings by Matthew Kneale

Getting rid of some books

Been a while since I’ve unhauled anything and it’s time, so this is going to be quite extensive. I will also be mentioning audiobooks that I’ve unhauled, since if I don’t enjoy an audiobook, I take advantage of Audible’s return thing. Some of these I may have mentioned that I am or have unhauled in previous posts, but I haven’t don’e an official unhaul and I think it’s nice to just have them all in one place.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi | The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

Read both of these, was very disappointed. I’ve reviewed Children of Blood and Bone so you can read that if you want to know more of my thoughts, but yeah… no reason for me to keep these. Despite their lovely covers.

Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett | Beyond a Darkened Shore by Jessica Leake | Grace & Fury by Tracey Banghart | To Best The Boys by Anne Weber| These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

These are all subscription box books that I’ve read and just don’t care about enough to keep. I have reviews of some of them, if you’re interested.

State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury | Viper by Bex Hogan | The Beholder by Anna Bright | Serpent & Dove by Shellby Mahurin | Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton | The Storm Crow by Kaylin Josephson

These are all subscription box books that I either have no interest in reading or have tried to read and DNFed.

Everless by Sara Holland| The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

I’ve read both of these and enjoyed them, but not enough to ever want to re-read them. I actually owned The Miniaturist both physically and as an audiobook, and unhauled both.

The Bat by Jo Nesbo | Origin by Dan Brown | Down River by John Hart|

These are all thrillers that I’m not interested in. I’ve tried reading The Bat, but ended up DNFing it.

Black Prism & Blood Mirror by Brent Weeks

I really wanted to like this series. Tried reading Black Prism twice and DNFed it twice. I even bought another book in the series when I saw it in a thrift shop (even though I’d already DNFed book 1 once). But it’s just not going to happen. Can’t stand the characters. I just can’t be in their heads. So they have to go.

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky | Lock In by John Scalzi

Two audiobooks I hated. I’m so glad I didn’t but physical copies of these. At least I got to exchange them for something better.

Unseen Academicals by Terry Prachett | Grief is the Thing With Feathers by Max Porter | A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin | Hitman Anders and the Meaning of it All by Jonas Jonasson | Kingdom of Copper by S. A. Chackraborty

These are all audiobooks that I enjoyed, but not enough to ever re-visit. Except for Kingdom of Copper. That I DNFed. Not so much because I disliked it, but because I just didn’t care enough to continue with it.

September-October 2019 Book Haul

I’ve been slightly more prolific with my book buying the past couple of months, although the majority of the books I got were in electronic format and two of the physical copy ones were FairyLoot books. Still, my physical TBR has gone up instead of down. *sigh* Just by one book, but still. I haven’t had a lot of time, so I’ve mostly been consuming books in audio format.

Physical books I purchased

Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson | The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan | The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

Serpent & Dove by Shellby Mahurin | The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

Electronic copies

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor | Osidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff | Circe by Madeline Miller | The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolkien | Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All by Jonas Jonasson

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon | The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon | The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon | Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson

Out of all of the electronic ones, I’ve read/listened to all of them except Dreams of Gods and Monsters and The Song Rising, which I’m currently reading both. So it’s not so bad. Except that I’m not reading my physical books, which I really want to in order to reduce my TBR. I have also unhauled a number of audiobooks. Most of these I got through Audible’s exchange thing. I’m going to do an unhaul post soon as well.

A Moderate Book Haul

Since my last haul which was in June, I believe, I’ve been pretty reasonable with my book buying. I brought in 6 books, 2 of which are audiobooks, 2 from subscription boxes and two that I bought as physical copies. And of the 6, I’ve already read 2 and am currently reading another 3. So, I haven’t massively added to my TBR these past couple of months, which I’m pleased with because I REALLY want to reduce it to a MAXIMUM of 20 books at least on my physical TBR. I’m not too fussed about my audiobook/ebook TBR, although I don’t want that to get too out of hand either. I currently have 58 books on my physical TBR, so I have some way to go. Anyway, let’s get into the haul.

Kingdom of Copper by S. A. Chakraborty | The Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien

Subscription Box

The Wicked Fox by Kat Cho | The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen

The Tiger and the Wolf by Adrian Tchaikovsky | Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

I buy too many books! | Book Haul

My ebook collection

I did a post a while ago about my audiobook collection and I recently bought a kindle, so I thought I’d do a post about my ebook collection. I have a lot kindle books. Most of them I got for free and I’m not necessarily interested in reading, but they were free and they don’t take up any space, so I have them in case I’m ever out of options. However, I’m not going to include those in this post. I’m only going to mention the ones I am interested in and also the audiobooks I’ve collected since my previous post. Some of these I’ve already read and reviewed, so I will link those reviews. I’ll use 📱 or 🎧 to indicate which format each bookk is.

The Schwarzschild Radius by Gustavo Florentin 📱| Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid 📱|Alice by Christina Henry 📱| City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty 📱 🎧| Sadie by Courtney Summers 🎧

Before the Broken Star by Emily R. King 📱| Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She’s Dead by Christiana Miller 📱| The Queen’s Poisoner by Jeff Wheeler 📱| The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien 🎧| Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence 🎧

The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin 🎧| Dracula by Bram Stoker 📱| Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco 🎧| Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco 🎧| Escaping From Houdini by Kerry Maniscalco 🎧

The Cogsmith’s Daughter by Kate M. Colby 📱| Surviving the Angel of Death by Eva Mozes Kor 📱| Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 📱| Lady Susan by Jane Austen 📱| Cappuchinos, Cupcakes and a Corpse by Harper Lin 📱

I think that’s more or less it for the books I’m actually interested in reading or have already read and enjoyed. I left out any books that I have read and are still on my kindle, but I didn’t like.

That’s it, unless I’m forgetting something. Which is entirely likely. Actually not as many as I was expecting. I was on a book buying ban for a couple of months though, so that’s probably why the total only comes up to 20. And some of these, I didn’t even buy myself!
