Blogger Recognition Award

I was nominated for this award quite some time ago by Joana @ Bookneeders and I didn’t do it right away for whatever reason and then I forgot about it. So, sorry for taking so long to do it and thank you for nominating me!

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

Story of my blog…

I started this blog pretty much on a whim about a year and a half ago. For the longest time, I didn’t really post anything on it. I was still doing booktube back then until I finally realised that I actually enjoy writing a blog more than I enjoy making youtube videos. So then I started posting more regularly and that’s about it, really.

Advice for new bloggers

Man, I don’t know how qualified I am to give any advice. But I would say one of the most important things it post content that you are passionate about, that you would enjoy reading and don’t be afraid of expressing your thoughts and opinions. They’re yours and you’re entitled to them and of course, be mindful and respectful of others, but don’t compromise.

And my second piece of advice is get involved. If you read a post that you like, comment on it. Even if it’s just to say “Hey, great post! I really enjoyed reading it.”. Because one, you’ll make someone happy and two, it’s the best way to have your blog discovered by others. So don’t just lurk. Engage.

Here are some of the blogs that I probably read the most and think they deserve recognition.

My Mystery Blogger Award

My Mystery Blogger Award

I have been nominated for this by both Joana @ Bookneeders and Marta @ The Book Mermaid. Thanks guys for nominating me! Go ahead and check out their blogs. They’re super. Also check out the creator of this award, Okoto Enigma.

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog.
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog!
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link to their blog as well.
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself.
  6. You have to nominate 10-20 people.
  7. Notify each of your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify).
  9. Share your link to your best post(s).

Wow, this one has a lot of rules! Well, here it goes.

Three random facts about me:

  1. I once won second place in a Latin competition.
  2. I can touch my nose with my tongue
  3. I like my pyjamas to be blue. At some point, I only owned blue pyjamas.

Joana’s questions:

1. What was the best vacation you ever had?

I don’t really know. Can’t think of one that particularly stands out.

2. What song always makes you happy when you hear it?

Again, I don’t really think I have one. Depends.

3. What are the things you always take with you?

My phone, my wallet and my ipod and headphones.

4. What’s your favourite word?

5. Weird: What’s the first thing you thought about, this morning?

The first thing I thought when I woke up this morning was “That was real. The other one wasn’t.” And I shan’t give you any context for that. Muahaha.

Marta’s questions:

1. What  kind of posts did you write most this year?

Probably tags/awards.

2. What’s your accomplishment you’re most proud of?

Hmm… good question. I don’t really know. I don’t think there are any accomplishments I am particularly proud of. I’m proud that I’ve been taking care of myself for over a year now like an actual adult. That’s pretty impressive, I think. I’m also proud that this blog is still going.

3. Random: what’s your favorite food?

Ughhhh, how to choose. Pizza? Chocolate? Nutella?

4. Which character’s name would you give your future child/pet?

I would totally name my cat Chairman Meow.

5. Random again: how old are you going to be next year?

I will be 21 next year.

My best post:

Hmm… I’m going to give you a link to the post that has the most comments, most views and the post that has the most likes.

Most comments: The Beauty and the Beast Tag

Most views: The Versatile Blogger Award

Most likes (as far as I can tell): Bookish Pet Peeves

My questions:

  1. Favourite Christmas song?
  2. Favourite Christmas food?
  3. Favourite Christmas book?
  4. Favourite Christmas memory?
  5. Random: Do you lick or bite into your ice-cream?

What? It’s Christmas! Deal with it.

The Miranda Sings Award

The Miranda Sings Award

I was nominated for this award a while back by Meghan @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations. Thank you Meghan!

he Rules:

  • Announce your win with a post, and link the blogger who nominated you.
  • Include the featured image on your blog post.
  • Nominate ten bloggers (or as many as you can think of) and link your awardees in the post.
  • List seven things you love about yourself. (This can be about your appearance, your personality, your achievements, etc.)
  • Don’t use negative connotation (i.e. Don’t say things like – “I’m prettier than an average person.” or “People have told me I’m smart.” You are pretty. You are smart.)

1. I’m really smart. I learn things quickly and easily, I have a great memory and I tend to be at least decent at most things that I attempt, whether they’re academic or not.

2. I’m profoundly curious about everything and that prompts me to think a lot, to try and understand things and people and situations complexly and I’m pretty good at it.

3. I am loyal to the people I love and also fiercely protective of them.

4. I am a nerd.

5. I’m pretty good at figuring people out based on very little interaction and I’m right about people most of the time.

6. I am quite observant.

7. I have really beautiful eyes. Well, to be honest, I find myself to be quite beautiful. But I particularly love my eyes.

So yeah, this was a perfect opportunity for me to be my own conceited self. Thank you to Meghan once again for giving me this opportunity.

I’m going to leave this as an open tag, because I feel like in a world plagued by false modesty, it’s good to look at the things we love about ourselves and then let people know that we love those things about ourselves. So please, considered yourself tagged.

The Black Cat Blue Sea Award

So, I’ve been pretty busy this past week, as you may have figured from my lack of activity. Classes started this Monday and let me tell you, this term will be insane! Anyway, I digress. I was going to review Crooked Kingdom, but I just haven’t had time to write a proper review yet (it’s coming, I promise!) so I’m doing this instead. I was nominated a while ago by Kayla @ Kdrewkthebookworm. Thank you so much for nominating me!

Kayla’s Questions

1. How many physical books do you own?

A couple hundred. Not sure of the exact number.

2. What device do you use to write your blog posts (computer, phone, etc.)?

Usually I blog from my laptop. But I occasionally use my phone as well.

3. Tell me a little known fact about you that no other bloggers know.

I really love textbooks and encyclopedias and atlases and generally academic books.

My Questions:

  1. Do you plan your posts or just spontaneously blog?
  2. How long does it take you to review a book?
  3. What do you think blogging has taught you?

I nominate:

The Sunshine Blogger Award 2.0

I have been nominated for this award once again by both Meghan @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations and Marta @ The Book Mermaid Blog. Thank you so much! You can find my first post here.

  • Answer the 11 questions
  • Nominate 11 other blogs and ask them 11 questions

Meghan’s Questions:

1. How do you read? While listening to music, etc? Or do you prefer to read in silence?

Usually in silence.

2. If you listen to music, what do you listen to? If you listen in silence, why?

If I listen to music, I have the tendency to sing along and then I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on reading. I do listen to classical music when I study, though.

3. If you could pick a book or series and turn it into a TV show, which would it be?

I would love to see either of Sarah J. Maas’ series as TV shows. But like,  Game of Thrones level TV shows, not Shadowhunters level TV shows.

4. What’s your favourite TV show, and why?

I don’t really have one, but I’m gonna go with Stranger Things because it’s the best show I’ve seen in a while.

5. Favourite cuisine?

Italian? My favourite cuisine is pizza. lol

6. How long does it take to write a blog post?

Depends on the post, but usually between 20 minutes and one hour.

7. Do you schedule your posts or post on a whim?

A bit of both.

8. What’s the best audiobook you’ve listened to?

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. To be fair, I’ve listened to very few audiobooks, but I really loved this one. I have a review of it here.

9. Have you ever lived outside of the place you were born?

Yep. In fact, I live outside the place I was born right now.

10. Is there a place you would rather live?

Not really, I like it here.

11. Money not being an option, what is the first thing you would do?

I think you meant if money wasn’t an issue? I would rent an apartment that had sufficient rooms for me and my friends plus a room for my books. Then I would order my entire Amazon wishlist, then I’d start organising trips around the world.

Marta’s Questions

1.What was your favorite book when you were a kid?

Depends how much of a kid. When I was really little (3 or 4), I had this Tarzan book based off the Disney film and that was my favourite.

2. Paperback, Hardback or ebook?

Paperback of hardback. I like hardbacks because they’re pretty, but paperbacks are more practical.

3. Favorite bookish quote?

This is difficult. A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one. – G.R.R. Martin (A Dance with Dragons)

4. For how long have you been blogging?

About a year, if you count the vlogging I did before this blog.

5. Have you met any of your favorite authors?

I met Cassandra Clare earlier this year and I’m meeting Sarah J. Maas on Thursday!!

6. How many books do you have in your tbr (to-be-read)?

333 currently on my Goodreads TBR shelf.

7. Do you eat / drink while reading?

Sometimes, though I try not to because I don’t want to stain my books. Usually when I read ebooks.

8. Favorite book-movie / book-tv show adaptation?

The Lord of the Rings.

9. What objects do you keep in your bookshelf besides books?

On my shelves back home I have some toys and picture frames. Here at uni, I have a few toys, a TARDIS mug and a couple of jewelry boxes.

10. Favorite memory of your childhood?

I don’t think I can pick an absolute favourite, but one of my fondest memories is of waking up early on a weekend, while my brother was still sleeping and make jigsaw puzzles with my dad.

11. If you could change your name, what would you choose?

I quite like my name, but if I had to change it, I’m kind of obsessed with the name Raven at the moment. So probably that. Cool question, by the way.

My Questions

  1. How do you decide what to read next?
  2. Do you prefer lazy summer afternoons reading in the sun, or rainy autumn evenings with a cozy blanket and a book?
  3. If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
  4. Do you collect anything?
  5. How often do you go to the book store?
  6. Do you prefer reading books in a series as they come out, or wait to read them all at once?
  7. What is a book that had a powerful impact on you?
  8. What genre do you read most of?
  9. Do your friends/ family know about your blog?
  10. How do you organise your bookshelves?
  11. Marvel or DC?

The Liebster Award 3.0

The Liebster Award 3.0

I have been nominated yet again for the Liebster award, this time by Michelle @ Addictively Turning Pages. Thank you so much for nominating me. I feel honoured to have received this award so many times. Also, you should check her blog out!

What is the Liebster Award?

Liebster is a German word meaning sweet, favourite or dearest. It is an award from bloggers to bloggers to discover new blogs and help build a sense of community in the blogging world.

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers that you think are deserving of the award.
  • Let the bloggers know you nominated them.
  • Give them 11 questions of your own.

Michelle’s questions:

1. If you were stranded on an island, name 3 books you would take with you.

The Bible, A Dummy’s Guide to Surviving on a Desert Island and What it Takes to Build a Raft and like, a bind-up of A Song of Ice and Fire or some other long series that I would probably only finish by the time my raft was ready and I was being rescued.

2. What is your opinion on love triangles?

Ugh. There is exactly one love triangle I’ve come across in my reading career that I actually liked and that is the one in The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.

3. If you could ask any author 3 questions, who would it be and what would be those questions?

Oh boy! Um, it would probably be Tolkien and my questions would be:

  1. Did you happen to write an alphabetised compendium of the characters in the LotR universe and their brief histories, and if so can I please have that manuscript, I need it for reasons.
  2. How in the name of sanity did you keep up with your own creation?
  3. Can you teach me the ways of awesomeness?

4. Who are your top 5 ultimate book boyfriends?

  • Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
  • Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  • Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Artemis Fowl from the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (He actually reminds me of someone I knew and sort of had a crush on. Like, it was more of a brain crush because this person was really smart and I just loved talking to him.)
  • *small voice* Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling (I had a huge crush on him when I first read the books and I don’t know, I like antiheroes.)
  • Also, a honourable mention to Jace Herondale from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

5. Who inspired you to blog?

I’m not sure. I’ve always liked the idea of a blog and I’ve had blogs before. But I guess it was just never the right time before, because I never really kept it up for more than a month or so until now.

6. What does your reviewing process look like? (ie the steps to writing a review; draft, edit, publish; mention plot, characters, etc)

Well, I generally try to create a profile for the book: genre, publication year, author, my star rating and a synopsis, which I generally try to write myself. Then I will usually mention what I thought of the plot and what I thought of the characters. But beyond that, it really depends from book to book. If I really liked or really disliked something in particular, I will talk about those things more. And then I usually end with either a question or a recommendation (such as “If you like so and so genre, I recommend this.” or “If you enjoy that type of character…” or “If you don’t like so and so, I don’t recommend this.” Or something like that.) Sometimes I will include both a question and a recommendation.

7. Favourite comfort food?

8. Favourite flavour of ice cream?

Hazelnut, because it tastes like Nutella in ice cream form.

9. What are your thoughts on book trailers?

They’re cool. They’ve made me want to read a book on a couple of occasions.

10. What is one piece of advice you want to share with all book bloggers (or bloggers in general?)

Write content that you would like to read.

11. Where can we stalk you? (ie Goodreads, Instagram, Twitter, etc)

You can stalk me on Goodreads and on Twitter. I am not particularly social media-y. I also have a Tumblr, but it’s been pretty neglected for the past few years.

I know I’m supposed to nominate people, but I just don’t know who to nominate whom I’ve not already nominated the previous two times. I need to follow more blogs because I know there are some great ones out there. I just haven’t had that much time to sit and look for them. Do you guys have any recommendations?

The Sunshine Blogger Award

The Sunshine Blogger Award

I have been nominated for this award by Demi @ Books Traveler a while back. Thank you Demi for the nomination! You should go check out her blog if you haven’t already.

Demi’s Questions

1. What Hogwarts house are you in?

Ravenclaw. Although I first joined Pottermore way back when it was launched. Back then, I was sorted into Slytherin. I even have a Pottermore certificate. Then the site changed and I couldn’t log in with my old account, so I made a new one and th second time I was sorted into Ravenclaw. It’s really always been a tosser between the two and I’ve always identified as a bit of a Slytherclaw.

2. What Ilvermorny house are you in?

Horned Serpent.

3. Have you read Harry Potter and The Cursed Child already or planning to?

Not yet!

4. Is there a book you own more than one copy of?

Quite a few. Of the top of my head, The Return of the King by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Heidi by Johanna Spiri, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fennimore Cooper. There are probably others, but I can’t remember right now.

5. What kind of book or movie related merchandise do you own?

Hmm, I have an ACOTAR tote bag,  Shadowhunters tote bag, a Lady Midnight poster, a Deathly Hallows necklace, a Time Turner necklace, a Captaim America: Civil War poster, a Mockingjay poster, a Star Wars t-shirt, a Legolas action figure, which is technically my brother’s but I confiscated it. Can’t think of anything else at the moment.

6. If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen?

The beginning of the universe.

7. What’s your favourite TV show?

I’m not sure I have just one. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supernatural, GoT, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy is probably the show I have seen the most times. But yeah, I love all of these and more.

8. What’s your favourite movie?

The Lord of the Rings.

9. If you could be any book character who would you be and why?

I’m not sure I really want to be any book character. All the characters I love have pretty shitty lives. Celaena from Throne of Glass? Yeah, she’s awesome and badass, but her whole family was murdered when she was 4. I’ll pass. I also wouldn’t really want to be a guy, which severely reduces the list of characters I love. Maybe I’d want to be Church from the Shadowunters books. He seems super chill and he apparently is immortal. I would just be a really sassy cat. So yeah, Church.

10. What do you look at first: the book cover or the blurb?

The book cover tends to be the first thing one notices about the book. Occasionally, the spine, depending on how the book is positioned on the shelf.

11. Which book should everyone read?

The Bible. If they must only read one. But also The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Giver by Lois Lowry

My Questions:

  1. Do you prefer the sea or the mountains?
  2. How do you organize your bookshelves?
  3. What is the book you’ve read the most?
  4. What is the film you’ve seen the most?
  5. What’s the last book that made you cry?
  6. When you go to the bookstore, do you usually have a specific book in mind, or do you just browse?
  7. What is your guilty pleasure?
  8. Most unusual food you’ve eaten?
  9. A book that you wish you hadn’t read?
  10. What is the most (aesthetically speaking) beautiful book you own?
  11. Do you have any pets?

The Liebster Award 2.0

The Liebster Award 2.0

I’ve been nominated once again for the Liebster Award. Thank you so much to Dom @ thesleepingreadingbeauty for nominating me!

The Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions I gave you
  • Nominate up to 11 other bloggers yourself (preferably those with fewer than 500 followers, this is more of a newbie award)
  • Provide those bloggers with 11 questions of your own for them to answer
  • Don’t forget to put the Liebster Award sticker on your blog!

Dom’s Questions

1.Who was your best teacher at the Primary school?

Well, I only had two teachers in primary school. One of them sucked, and one of them was awesome. She didn’t teach any particular subject, rather all of them. It’s only in Secondary that we started having separate teachers for separate subject. One of my favourite teachers was my Physics teacher in  my final 3 years of school. He was awesome.

2. What is your favourite food?

I’m going to go with the boring answer here and say pizza. But really, I’m not sure. I guess it depends on what I’m craving. I don’t think I have one food I prefer above all others.

3. What is your favourite drink?

Water. I mean, I may like many other drinks, but I’ll always come back to water. There’s nothing as good and satisfying as cold, clean water.

4. Where would you like to move and live if you could?

I have no idea. I don’t really have and particular place I’d like to live. I prefer quieter, suburban areas, but that are still close to a big city. I just like having the best of both worlds.

5. Who is your favourite politician?

I haven’t got one. It’s mostly varying degrees of dislike. Although to be honest, I don’t know much about many politicians.

6. If you could travel in time, when would you like to live?

Right now. I quite enjoy hot running water and sewage and not dying of the plague or the flu or an infected scratch. I’m also fond of the internet and fruit juicers and computers and technology in general. But if it were just a visit, I would like to go to Ancient Rome or Greece. And also the Victorian era.

7. What is your favourite book?

The Bible. My favourite fiction book is The Lord of the Rings.

8. Who inspired you in life?

This is such a difficult question to answer. I think every one I meet inspires me in a way. Some inspire me to be like them, some inspire me not to be like them.

9. Who inspires you at work?

Well, I’m a student. I’m not sure I can entirely attribute it to this one person, but I knew someone who really inspired me to pursue what I wanted to study. I just really admired this person and I mean, I had always known that I wanted to study, but I might have chosen an easier path if it weren’t for this person. I don’t know, maybe not.

10. What is your favourite book blogger?

Again, I don’t know. I don’t think I do. I enjoy all the blogs I read, but I haven’t been reading blogs for long enough that I have a favourite.

Because I lack inspiration for questions (this post has been in my drafts for weeks now as I kept trying to come up with good questions) and I also don’t really know who to tag whom I haven’t already, I will not tag anyone or leave questions this time.
