Down the TBR hole #30

it’s been absolutely ages since I last did one of these. But here I am continuing with it. as a refreshes of how this works, I go to my Goodreads TBR shelf and randomise it and pick out the first 10 books that I’m no longer interested in reading. I did originally go through every single book and decided whether or not I wanted to read it, but that was just taking too long.

Winter Dark by Alex Callister

44175922. sx318

I just have no desire whatsoever to read this. I don’t even know why it’s on my TBR.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

This is one of those classics that I say “Oh, one day I’ll read it”. But yeah, I will most likely never read it and I don’t need it cluttering my TBR shelf.

Freeze Frame by Heidi Ayarbe

Again, I just have no interest in this. It’s been on my shelf since probably like 2015. It ain’t happening folks.

Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

I enjoyed The Giver when I read it, but that was in like 2016 or something so… yeah I’m probably never reading this.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

27833670. sy475

I’d watch a movie of this. But I don’t think I’m interested enough to read the book.

Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Again, I’d probably watch it as a film. But honestly it sounds like something that’ll just negatively impact my mental health. So… no.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Paranormal thrillers are not really my thing and this has been on my TBR for 5 years so… it’s not happening.

Muse of Nightmare by Laini Taylor

38525180. sy475

I didn’t love Starnge the Dreamer. it was okay, but eh… I don’t see myself continuing with this.

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

51901147. sy475

I tried listening to this on audio and the narration sucked so I stopped and then I heard everyone say that the book in general sucks and yeah, I just lost interest.

Schindler’s List by Thomas Keneally

I’ve seen the film several times. It’s a great story, but I already know it.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

I saw the film and it was really good, and heartbreaking and a bit terrifying. And I think that was enough for me. I don’t see myself reading this.

The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud

Honestly have no idea what this is about. Whenever I scroll through my GR TBR I look at it and am like “What’s that?”. So it’s time for it to go.

Horse Soldiers by Doug Stoughton

I actually own a copy of this. Or my dad does. I’m not sure whose it is, but it lives in my room where most of the books live in my parent’s house. But I genuinely doubt I’ll ever pick it up and if I do, then I already own it, so I don’t need it on my GR TBR.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

This is one of those books I’ve been saying I’ll read for the past 4 years and never read it. I don’t think it’s going to happen, especially that I read a lot less YA these days.

Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt de la Pena

29749094. sx318

Superman is probably my least favourite superhero. I always found him boring. So Yeah, not going to read this.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

I think I’ve outgrown Sarah J. Maas. I haven’t loved her last couple of books. Way too much smut for my taste. So I think for now, I will put her books aside. I’m probably still going to finish Throne of glass just because I only have one book left and it’s a series that I loved so much for such a long time, I have to finish it.

ACOTAR #4 by Sarha J. Mass

See above.

Monster Vol. 1 by Naoki Urasawa

I’ve seen the anime and it’s really good, but I think I’m satisfied with just that.

Fire Kin by M. J. Scott

I was going to read this because it’s the last book in the series, but meh. I just don’t care enough.

Shadow Study by Maria V. Snyder

I really enjoyed the Poison Study series. but it’s been a long time since I’ve read it and I haven’t felt compelled to pick up the follow up series, so I’m gonna let them go for now.

Storm Glass by Maria V. Snyder

Similarly to Soulfinders, I just haven’t felt compelled to pick this series up. It also takes place in the same universe, following one of the side characters from the original series. I do kind of want to revisit this universe. But i’d need to re-read the original series first and I don’t even own the books. So for now, I’m going to set it aside.

Ice Study by Maria V. Snyder

This I believe is a short story/novella that takes place between two books of the original series. So yeah, if I read it now, I’d be very confused.

The Rising Dark by Alexandra Bracken

This is a short story collection from The Darkest Minds series. I’m done with that series. I’ve read the main trilogy. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. I don’t feel any desire to know anything more about these characters.

Gilded Ashes by Rosamund Hodge

I enjoyed her other retelling, and this is set in the same world. But this is a Cinderella retelling, which was always one of my least favourite fairy tales and it’s a novella and I just don’t feel like I want to read it. I don’t think I ever did, I think I just added it because I liked Cruel Beauty.

Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton

heart of thorns

I even unhauled this book. I’m not sure why it’s still on my TBR.

I only have 6 for this round. There are still a few that I’m on the fence about. So I’ll leave them for next post. I definitely want to get rid of a lot more of them. Because there’s no way I can read another 170 books by the end of the year. I’m not too fussed if I don’t manage to get it under 100 by the end of the year. I know that’s pretty ambitious. But I want to make a good effort at it.

Down the TBR Hole #26

It’s been a very long time since I’ve done one of these posts and I completely lost track of all my previous stats for this, so I’m going to change it up a little bit. From now on, each down the TBR hole post will contain up to 10 books from my current Goodreads TBR that I’m getting rid of. So I will go through the whole TBR each time and choosing 10 that I am no longer interested in reading. I currently have 294 books on my Goodreads TBR and I kind of want to get it down to under 100 as soon as possible whether it’s by reading the books that I’m interested in or removing the ones I’m not interested in.

Previous post

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I’ve had Rainbow Rowell books on my TBR for 4 years now and I have not read even one. I just don’t read contemporaries that much. I might end up picking one of her books if I’m ever in the mood for a contemporary, but they’re such well known books, I don’t need to have them clutter my TBR.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman

Again, as with Rainbow Rowell… I just don’t reach out for contemporaries. I have read her If I Stay duology and I enjoyed it. So she’s definitely an author I will keep in mind if I’m looking for a contemporary, but again, doesn’t need to be on my TBR.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Are you spotting a trend here?

The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick

I’m just not interested. I’m not even sure that I ever was. Not sure how this ended up on my TBR.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

I’ve heard a lot of meh things about this book from people that I trust and I was slightly disappointed by The Wrath and the Dawn. So I’m just no longer interested in this.

Slayer by Kiersten White

I heard that this is kind of disappointing. I was excited about it, but I don’t really want to read a bad Buffyverse book. It would upset me too much.

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

I do not feel any desire to read this.

Angelfall by Susan Ee

I’ve had this on my TBR for about 4 years and I just never cared to pick it up. So I think it’s time to say goodbye.

The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine

I’ve had this on my TBR pretty much since it came out and I haven’t picked it up and I’m probably not going to.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Another one that’s been on my TBR for years. I think I’m just going to watch the show if I really want to experience this story.

Down the TBR hole #25

This one’s a bit different. I really wanted to de-clutter my TBR, so instead of going sequentially though the next 10 books in my TBR and deciding whether to keep them or not, I went through my whole TBR and chose 10 books that I definitely won’t be reading.

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahor

a torch against the night

I know I kept this book previously, but I just really don’t see myself continuing with this series. So it goes.

Spiders & Thirteen by Tom Hoyle

I just have no interest in reading these. I didn’t have much interest to begin with.

Pivot Point by Kasie West

Yeah, I just don’t really care about this book anymore. I’m never going to read it, realistically.

Shadows on Snow by Starla Huchton

I honestly didn’t even know anything about this. I sow it on my TBR and was like “Huh? What’s this?” I have no recollection of ever even hearing about this book. And I’m not a massive Snow White fan anyway.

Zenith part 1 & Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsey Cummings

I originally added Part 1 when it first came out as a ebook and then the book came out in print and I added that as well and I don’t intend to read either one. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it and I wasn’t entirely sure to begin with.

Clancy of the Undertow by Christopher Curie

I’ve spoken several times about my lack of interest in reading this book. I eve unhauled it.

Flawed by Cecilia Ahern

I’m just really over dystopias.

The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer

I just don”t feel drawn to it.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling

Honestly, I have very little interest in reading this. I’ve heard reviews of it, I know what happens and it just doesn’t really appeal to me.

Verdict: Goes

False Gods by L. R. Trovillion

I don’t know. This doesn’t have many reviews and while it’s a horse book and I love horses, there are just so many other books on my TBR, I doubt I’ll get to this.

Verdict: Goes

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

I’ve actually yet to read an Aladdin re-imagining, so I want to read this. And it’s blurbed by Sarah J. Maas.

Verdict: Stays

Traitor to the Throne & Hero at the fall by Alwyn Hamilton

I’m not really sure why I never continued with this series as I really enjoyed the first book, but I am interested in continuing.

Verdict: Stay

Wicked by Gregory Maguire

Ugh… I don’t know. I never think about this book. Maybe one day, but not in the forseable future.

Verdict: Goes

Raven’s Gate by Anthony Horowitz

I don’t really feel drawn to this, to be honest.

Verdict: Goes

Shadow Scale & The Audition by Rachel Hartman

I really need to finish this series. The first book was so cool and it’s only a duology. Plus a short story.

Verdict: Stay

Of Breakable Things by A. Lynden Rolland

This has a cool cover and a cool title and at first glance, even a cool premise. Buuut… ultimately it seems to me like it’s a high-school romance except everyone happens to be a ghost. So… nah.

Verdict: Goes

Noted From the Underground, White Nights, The Dreams of a Ridiculous Man and Selections From the House of the Dead by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Verdict: Goes

The Double by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

One of these days, I’m going to finish this series, gosh darn it!

Night of Cake and Puppets by Laini Taylor

Zuzana is such a great character and I really like her in the series, even though we don’t get to see her much. So I definitely want to read this.

Verdict: Stays

The Queen’s Army & Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky by Marissa Meyer

These are two Lunar Chronicles short stories that I want to read, but I also have the bind-up of all the short stories in the series on my TBR, so I will remove these.

Verdict: Go

The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

The next four books are novels and novellas all from the Lunar Chronicles which is a series I definitely want to continue with, so to save myself some time, I’ll group them all together.

Verdict: Stay

I was a little bit disappointed by the first book, but I still want to finish this series since it’s only a duology and I did enjoy it overall.
